About the making process
Debs the vase was hand built with much care, from a pre-drawn sketch. In the technique, two clay slabs of similar shapes are carefully bent several times during the drying process, and then attached together. The edges are then strengthened with fresh clay, after which the piece is finished off with a wet sponge and sculpting tools, and painted by hand. I have learned this technique from Noot & Swart studio in Utrecht and have been using it more frequently lately. What I love about this technique is that it lets you explore new shapes and designs easily as you get to realize any drawn shape in a ceramic pot or vase. You can see more of this technique in this Instagram post.

The Pottery Parade's pots are thrown on the pottery wheel. Afterwards, they are sculpted and painted with lots of care, giving each of them their own unique character. The colored clay slibs used for decoration are produced provided by Studio Noot & Swart based in Utrecht, The Netherlands.
