Summer Pottery Week (august 11 - august 15)

€425,00

In August, I invite you to come and immerse yourself in the world of Playful Pottery for an entire week. You will be making ceramics in my pottery studio 4 to 5 hours every day, with plenty of time left to enjoy the beautiful city of Utrecht in the Afternoon. It will be a fun, relaxing and inspiring week in which you will create your own collection of hand built and hand painted ceramics. When the week is completed, I will fire your works, and you will receive them in a surprise package by mail within 4 weeks. It will be the first time I am hosting a larger workshop, and I cannot wait!

All experience levels are welcome ❤️

Anyone who would like to get more familiar with the world of ceramics is welcome to join us. Both beginner and advanced levels, based around Utrecht, or visiting from other places. On the first day of the course, we will cover several ceramic techniques to help you get started and after this, you will be free to work on your own projects in your own pace. We will be there to guide you whenever needed.

The Studio

The workshop will take place in my wonderful new studio at the Hooghiemstra Building In the Centre of Utrecht (I will be moving there in May!). It’s a beautiful, light and inspiring place, perfect for ceramics workshops. The Building is located near the Canal and the Griftpark. A short walk on the canal will bring you to lots of fun shops and cafés, and there is also a wonderful coffee place right below the studio.

Setup

Monday
We will start off with an introduction of the week, the materials and an orientation; I will demonstrate different pottery techniques and from here, you will plan your personal project for the week. You will have the final hours of this morning to start off with your creations.

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday
The rest of the week you will working on your ceramic projects. There will be lots of creative freedom, and you will be working in your own pace. We will be there to offer tips and guidance, whenever needed. There will be occasional snacks, coffee, tea and you are free to enjoy a short beak short break whenever you feel like it (there are great spots for walking around the studio).

Friday
On Friday, after finishing the projects, You will be organizing your works so that I can fire them, glaze them and send them out to you when they are finished. We will do an address check and note down any additional request (f.e. painting them with gold luster) and we will leave them in the cabinets to dry. We will finish the week with a goodbye-lunch at around 1 pm.

Pottery Projects

The course will focus on three different projects, and you will be free to choose yours. As we don't want people to feel rushed, I will ask you to choose one project to begin with. You will be free to choose another when your project is finished, and there is still time left.

Project 1: Small vases
Sculpting and painting a collection of small, solid sculptures that can carry a flower. From pups to cats to small human faces, there will be many designs to take your inspiration from. Creating vases you can hang on the wall will also be an option!

Project 2: Lucky Potatoes
Sculpting and painting a collection of lucky potatoes, to give away to a loved one or yours to keep :) Lucky Potatoes may be small and simple in design, but come in many different colors and variations. From pieces with a pink speckled coat to spuds with a bird on their head, there are so much fun possibilities!

Project 3: Tall bud vases
Building and painting a small collection of your own tall bud vases, using clay slabs and some basic tools. This project is a bit more challenging, but the results are rewarding. From tall pups to people or penguins, tall vases come with lots of different design options, too!

Many of my sculptures carry gold luster details on them, but due to technical reasons we won't be working with gold luster in the workshop.
